Fabula mold-free coffee: Coffee beans have very high levels of mold so we like to drink coffee that is tested to be mold free. The Fabula is the coffee we drink at home. It's delicious.
Purity mold-free coffee: Another great mold-free coffee option for people that are looking for origin-specific coffee.
MaraNatha Nut Butters: Nuts have naturally very high mold counts so it's tough (if not impossible) to find one that is 100% mold free but this is the cleanest we've found.
Simply Organic spices: Spices are often harvested and stored in humid climates and many spices have heavy mold levels. You should always try to find organic, small batch spices that do microbial testing. This is our favorite bigger brand.
Dry Farm Wines: The grapes used in wine are very suceptiable to mold when stored in old barrels. Generally try to find "clean wines." Dry Farm wines is one of the bigger natural wine distributors.
Jungmaven Hemp Clothing: Their stuff isn't cheap but they offer a wide range of hemp clothing made in the USA that are naturally mold resistant and we've never had one come out of the wash smelling musty at all.
Patagonia Hemp Clothing: Most people don't realize that they offer a whole line of hemp made products.
WAMA Underwear: It might sound itchy but their hemp under garments are actually really comfortable. Great natural fiber undewear company.
Smartwool: From socks to shirts and fleeces, their stuff 100% marino wool items are all natural and they last forever.
Icebraker: Their marino lined jackets are amazing and their under garments are surprisingly comfortable.
Moso Natural Air Purifiers: hang these up anywhere things tend to get damp or musty smelling. Our favorite spots are in pantries, laundry rooms and wherever you keep your shoes.
Earth Therapeutics: If you're sick of your natural fiber body brush getting moldy after a few weeks, try this Silicone one.
Primally Pure Dry Face Brush: Our wives use this one daily. Because it's meant to be used dry it keeps away mold for a long time (forever?).
Vinegar: Buy distilled vinegar at any grocery store and dilute it with water for one of the best natural cleaning products around. Typical dilution recommendation is 1/4 cup of vinegar to 2 1/2 cups of water
EC3 laundry additive: A great all natural solution if you are struggling with "musty smelling" clothes. Works great on workout gear.
There are generally two grades of dehumidifiers for the home: residential and commercial. They differ mainly in how much moisture they can remove per day. Residential units typically remove 20–70 pints of moisture per day, while commercial units can handle 100–300+ pints.
Commercial dehumidifiers are also more heavy-duty. They’re designed to run continuously, often with built-in pumps, whereas residential units usually need to be manually emptied or connected to a drain. Some basements may even require a commercial-grade unit with professional installation.
Here are some of our top picks in both categories.
Honeywell 3000 sq ft residental: This will get annoying if you have to run it all the time because you have to empty it or attach it to a drain but it will do the job for short stints or on humid days.
Santa-Fe compact commercial dehumidifier: This is a fantastic choice for basements or crawl spaces that need to constantly be dried out. It can cover up to 2,200 feet and work around the clock removing 43.7 pints of moisture per day. It also has a built in pump which can push water up over a window or into a sink.
Alorair LGR commercial dehumidifier: This is a great movable dehumidifier that can dry out soaked crawl spaces in record time.
If you’re dealing with mold in your home, a high-quality standalone air purifier can make a big difference. These units work independently from your HVAC system and are designed to remove mold spores and musty odors from the air using powerful filtration—especially true HEPA filters and activated carbon.
To get something truly effective, expect to spend at least $300 for a new unit. Most quality air purifiers also require filter replacements once or twice a year, which typically costs around $100 annually. It’s an investment in cleaner air and better health, especially in spaces that have been recently remediated or are prone to moisture.
Here are a few of our favorite standalone models that are especially effective against mold.
Greentech Active HEPA+: This compact unit is one of the most commonly recommended air purifiers for mold spore reduction. Our families own this air purifier.
RabbitAir MinusA2 Ultra Quiet: We also own this air purifier and keep it in our bedroom. This is the best one we've found if you want to place the unit up against a wall or mount it. The filters get pricy at around $90 every six months.
IQAir HealthPro Plus XE: People absolutely love this powerful purifier but it's big so you need to have a house with lots of space. This one unit can cover up to 1125 square feet.
Austin Air Healthmate Plus: People swear by these all metal units and it is one of the most commonly used units in doctors and dentists offices.
