Cleaning mold in home

Cleaning mold is not as easy as it sounds because when you spray mold with a cleaning product, you make it angry. And when mold gets angry it spores out, increasing spore counts in the air and making anyone’s reaction to the mold worse than when it was happy on the wall or in your grout. This is why always suggest an inspection first and if you have visible mold, it is often best to fog the whole home. The fogging surrounds the mold so it has no where to go and kills the spores in the air and on porous and nonporous surfaces.

For homes that have visible signs of mold we have the option to spot treat them during treatment to remove the mold stain in the wood, drywall or grout. If requested, the main spot cleaning chemical we use is Dot Cleaner. This chemical is stronger than what we use in our fog so if you would prefer only EPA safe treatments we suggest you replace or repaint the area with a mold stain.  

If you need to clean something that is moldy be sure to wear proper protective gear (ideally a full face mask with a respirator) and take the item you are cleaning outside in the sun and use Hydrogen Peroxide and/or soak in vinegar. Then let the item sit in the sun for a few hours.

Do not use bleach. It doesn't work. It just bleaches the mold so you can't see it.

Cleaning “musty” clothes

The musty smell from clothes is from mold and it is almost always the result of excess moisture in the clothing.

To remove, try some combination of the following:
1. Clean your washing machine and the ring around the front
2. Make sure your dryer is on “dry” not “less dry”
3. Add a wool dryer ball to your dryer
4. Buy clothes with natural, organic fabrics - it is typically plastic based fabrics (like
polyester) that trap moisture and get musty
5. Wash your clothes again
6. Pre-soak clothes in vinegar
7. Dry them outside in the sun
